How does one fish for grass carp? I've only heard guys using maple peas in the shallows to get them.... but had no luck with it so far...

Try using sweet boilies, or floating crust. Or if all else fails, try using some grass |

Tigers and maiz laced with tigernut oil
I normally fish one rod right over the top of the baited area with double tigernut and a piece of cork so it all just sinks.
and the other a 20mm tigernut pop up 12 - 36 inches straight off the lead on the outside of the baited area.
They love weed beds and lilly pads and normally will sit on top of the weed and bask in the sun so get the polaroids on and climb some trees and watch em see which way they come and go then set your traps |

Generally by accident, i don't like catching grassies, because i'm always worried ones gonna die on me, i've only had 3 but two over 20lb and the other a double. I've always caught them fishing on the surface for normal carp, you can usually tell a grass carp take, as they seem to strike at the bait |

There are shoals of them in my local canal, I can only catch them off the surface by dangling bread in the reeds. When they take they are like bullets up the canal. Great sport

They are very fragile fish, especially in Summer, when the water can be low on Oxygen levels |
