My darling wife brought me one for Christmas as I’m looking to fish a small pit this summer that is a considerable walk from the carpark, even though I have a barrow I wanted something that didn’t weigh a tonne. I’ve got a 60 oval brolly from aqua which is so easy to put up it’s unreal, but it does weigh a fair bit, and it's a great bit of kit for the summer, but I’m trying to lighten my load.
I also have a twin skinned JRC STI again great kit for the winter on the big pit I fish virtually from the back of the car so the weights no issue, and it does weigh a tonne!
So the Chubb Snooper Lite @ £80 did it do what it said on the tin. Nothing like field testing it on a cold wet weekend in January, if it can handle that then the summer will be a breeze.
Done a three day session last weekend, as it was due to rain on the Friday we all arrived in the dark on the Thursday, I wouldn’t exactly say it’s rapid erect but it did go up quite quick considering it was the first time it had been out of the bag and it was dark, but up it went with not much fuss. Once pegged out it was very solid and there was plenty of room inside.
THEN it started raining, and it rained, and it rained and just for good measure it rained some more, anyhow the bivvy didn’t leak and I was kept nice and dry for the 36 hour down pour we endured!
Sunday morning saw me stuffing the lot away wet, and dumping it in the corner of my shed.
This weekend it came out again still wet, but as I was setting up in the day light it went up a lot easier as I knew what I was doing and left it to dry out. Sunday morning and I awoke to a few drip of condensation inside, but as I had the door down (not fishing, camping due to the lake freezing at half nine and me having to bring the rods in) this would probably explain that.
As I didn’t know when I’d be out again I decided to dry it rather than dump it in the shed, being small and very light I just placed it on top of my front room radiator for the afternoon, a few hours later job done.
So overall it scored high I’d say 9 out of 10, at the end of the day it’s a cheap bivvy that I’m going to use for the summer, will it still score 9 out of 10 this time next year?????? Watch this space.
