Which is the best free antivirus system for windows 7??? Oh and while I'm here the best free firewall too (for girlfriends new laptop).
Also, I've been looking at AVG for her machine seeing as I use it at the moment on mine but with XP. However, I have seen lots of bad reports about the latest edition....... version 9. Aparently it slows your machine down . Anyone having problems with this? I'm still on 8.5 but have noticed a slowing down of my PC just lately and the virus scans take about an hour and 45 minutes these days!!! Is that about right for everyone else too???
Anyone using Avast??? If so, any good?

It seems that plenty of people are having problems with AVG 9 on windows 7 and most of them are turning to Avast and having trouble free use .
I'll see how the girlfriend gets on with it and if its favourable I might give it a whirl myself .

We have two laptops in the house at the moment with windows 7 on them!!! And both not mine but both waiting for me to install Avast on them!!! Just shows how foolish women are when they trust me to install stuff on their new computers .

| I tried the latest Norton and McAfee when I first moved to Win7 but it was crap. I don't really use antiviruses anymore, I'm usually careful enough that I don't get anything. Granted someone might hack me (ooooh) and steal my 200gb of porn I collected over the years, but ah well, it's backed up anyway :D |

Another vote for Avast, used it for years with no problems, also use "Superantispyware" and "Malawarebytes" on a regular basis. All free, blimey I must be turning "Northern"
