Hi guys, not really new to spodding but going to be trying something different this year by spodding maggots, I can't seem to get my head round it, how will I approach this tactic and what type of spod will I use, I just don't understand it haha.

I was thinking about taping round a normal spod and maybe plugging the end with a little bit of moist groundbait, just don't fancy maggots flying out everywhere mid cast. |

i love the idea of that spomb looks great for extreme range spodding, but i am not sure how good it would be for putting out lots of bait, looks a bit of a pain to fill. a normal spod takes no time at all a quick scoop and job done. And getting into a rhythem is important for me when putting out a lot of bait.
I would also be interested to hear how durable it is, spods by their nature take some hammer and get covered in messy spod mix, the spomb says dont fil the front section i can only see limited value if it gonna knacker the locking mechanism if you get spod mix in it.
be really interested to hear a review tho welbs. |
Cheers Phil |

Yer that or dunk the spod to fill with water and they should saty in but groundbait would be safer
What spod do you use?

The Bit you arent supposed to fill is only a tiny space 1/2 inch wide in fact. I see its use being predominantly for dry delivery eg: maggots, crumbed boilies and pellet. Will do a review when i have used it for sure Phil

| also, don't tape all of the holes on the spod up, it won't fill up with water and tip up to empty otherwise! |

No spod rod or leader needed either, a normal 2.75lb rod and a good 12lb or 15lb line is fine |

Freeze your maggot feed, (this will kill them), then let them thaw and put them into a normal spod with a small amount of groundbait, or just some hemp. If you are fishing maggot over the top save some live ones for the hook / rig, they are easier to use.

| Ill second that, although I like to keep a few pints of live ones to add to the mix, got to have a few wriggly ones around the swim. Keeps the fish searching for longer. |

I have done well fishing over dead maggots. But fishing Live ones on the hook, fish seem to nail the live ones as soon as they spot them |

| I spod a lot of maggot and just mix them with a lot of Hinders A mix that makes them stay in the spod for the cast and also puts a lovely cloud all the way through the water column to pull fish down to the bait. |

Currently using Korda skyliners for my particles mate. Yer that or dunk the spod to fill with water and they should saty in but groundbait would be safer

| OK guys, so i'm starting off spodding on my local lakes with maggots to get some practice but come August i will be fishing Elphicks for a week and possibly spodding about 6-8 pints of maggots a day, also i will be buying the maggots fresh while i'm down there |

The great thing with using deaders is that after you freeze them they dont get any deader nor can they "turn". So they keep for several days whilst they thaw out. Going for a week? Not a lot of a problem if you use a well insulated cold box, ice packs, and tape the lid shut till you need them.
