Best of British - Redmire Pool

Possibly the most historic of all carp UK waters, stocked with small carp from Donald Leney in 1934 and was fished many years later by many great pioneering anglers anglers such as, Richard Walker, Jack Hilton, Pete Springate, Rod Hutchinson, Kevin Maddocks, Bill Quinlan, Pete Thomas and many many more.....still fished to this day with it's best times having sadly passed long ago with no reports of the great monsters it once held for many years, but you never know!

The great capture of Clarissa by Richard Walker back in September 1952 at a weight of 44lb inspired many a carp angler that believed that carp of this size were impossible to catch... This great fish was moved to London Zoo after it's capture and lived for a further 20 years, who knows what weight she may have achieved if left in her natural home of Redmire Pool.

Not a historic capture in itself this one but a truly historic fish known as Raspberry which lived to an age in excess of 60 years, it never grew to be a massive fish but was certainly amongst Redmires most beautiful residents. The great fish is pictured here with the late but very great Jack Hilton, himself every bit the legend as any of the Redmire carp themselves!

Chris Yates with the huge 51lb 8oz mirror which smashed the UK record back in 1980, never officially recognised as the UK record but certainly recognised as such by the carp angling world.

Just a snapshot of the great fish Redmire held in it's glory days.... Some claim to have seen carp in excess of anything that had ever been caught in Redmire or seen on this page and who knows this may well have been true, truly a great British carp pool that may well throw up a surprise or two one day....perhaps an uncaught monster!
